Top 10% in United States for Rehabilitative Care – It Matters!

Five years in a row, our patient care efforts at Lafayette Regional Rehabilitation Hospital have earned us national recognition as a healthcare leader, meaning that we provide the highest level of available care to our patients in our own community. We consider it a privilege to be able to offer high-level care and are honored to be a vital part of the community we serve.

Lafayette Regional Rehabilitation Hospital ranked in the top 10 percent of inpatient rehabilitation facilities in the United States, five years in a row (2014-2018).

The ranking is by the Uniform Data System for Medical Rehabilitation (UDSMR), a not-for-profit corporation that was developed with support from the National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation research, a component of the U.S. Department of Education.

The UDSMR ranks rehabilitation facilities based upon care that is:

  1. Patient-Centered
  2. Effective
  3. Efficient
  4. Timely

This means that through services at Lafayette Regional Rehabilitation Hospital, our patients are receiving the highest level of rehabilitative care available – without having to leave the area.

UDSMR, which administers the world’s largest medical rehabilitation database, provides common language and measurement tools to monitor patient results.

Through UDSMR, our hospital collaborates with peers throughout the United States to share information and establish best practices for patients. This helps us elevate rehabilitative care for everyone across the United States.

National Certification in Stroke Rehabilitation

Lafayette Regional Rehabilitation Hospital is the first hospital in Lafayette and among a select few in Indiana to earn The Joint Commission’s national disease-specific certification in stroke rehabilitation.

Certification is voluntary and given after a rigorous on-site review of the hospital’s practices, programs, and outcomes in treating stroke patients. It is available only to acute care hospitals that are accredited by The Joint Commission.

To get the most successful results for our patients, the hospital promotes family involvement, and follows best practices and evidence-based clinical practice guidelines through our inpatient and outpatient stroke services, resulting in:

  • Quicker recovery times for patients
  • More patients discharged to home
  • More physical and cognitive independence for patients

At the hospital, an interdisciplinary healthcare team works with patients and their family members to create individualized treatment plans so the patients can progress at their own ability levels. The rehabilitation team includes specially trained physicians, nurses, case managers, and occupational, speech, and physical therapists – among other medical professionals.

Our healthcare team provides our patients with 24-hour rehabilitative nursing care and daily physician management. All patients have access to private patient rooms and well-equipped therapy areas, including a 6,000-square-foot therapy gym, an aquatic therapy pool, and a therapeutic courtyard.

Patients can practice at-home activities while still under the supervision of a healthcare professional in our daily living and transitional suites. The hospital also offers home evaluations to identify any necessary modifications that may need to be made to a patient’s house before leaving the hospital to ensure a safer return home.
